Any tips on a light massage table?

Hi everyone

I'm in the process of trying to buy a massage table. As I intend to start off as mobile therapist (and I don't drive) I really need a light-weight table. I've been thinking of getting the REM airlight which is only 12kg but I'm worried that the width (61cm) and height (79cm) may be problematic - especially as I'm 6ft 2.

Will 79cm be high enough for me? Or do you know of any equally light couches that have more height?

I bought the Protech II for that reason. Weighs in at about 7kg, and is the lightest table on the market, plus is sculpted so is wide around the clients shoulder and leg area but scoops in so you can reach the back without struggling. comes with adjustable head rest and arm shelf too as extras, which are very useful and clients love the arm shelf particuarly.

They took ages to make it from scratch due to problems getting some part or another, but are very helpful and friendly and I couldn't be happier with the table itself.

When I was being measured up for a portable table, I had to stand straight, and the distance between the floor and my knuckles was measured! (71cm) I am 5ft6in, so 79cm may be too low for you. 61cm width should be OK as long as your clients are not too 'wide'!! Make sure you are comfortable with whichever table you choose - sometimes, pain caused by working on an inadequate table is worse than the ache caused by lugging something heavy.

Also - your question about draping in another thread - by the time you have finished the course, you will be folding towels in your sleep! I no longer use the technique I was taught - I have picked up tips over the years and alter it to fit each client!

I've been looking at the Rem airlight too. I'm buying a christmas present for my sister who has just qualified. I have a much heavier table (18kg) and dont mind the heavy weight but I know my sister wone be able to manage.

I found another massage table here that is lighter (11kg) than the rem airlight and is 35" wide.

I'm in a similar situation;Bid for a 'LiteChoice' Lite Massage Table Couch from Healthline and paid £51+£20 del, 14kgs gross; sent faulty product & incorrect model, bid 18th Dec. Had to wait til they returned after Xmas; sent replacement received 5th Jan; wrong model and damaged. Now they are disputing 20-day cut-o Pamff time for manufacturing fault and calling it 'damage in transit', trying to default responsibility. BEWARE of buying on E-bay for this product, the company is in Canada importing to Stowmarket warehouse from China. They are now saying they sent me a superior model (18kgs)because they were out-of-stock, which is incorrect (still advertising product) and I have bought the former because I am not strong enough to carry anything heavier. Not sure of my recourse of action, but have notified E-bay; may be able to get money back for paying on credit card through Paypal. Good luck hunting. The 'Jupiter' couch is 13.5kgs (London company, Massage Table Store) is the best, but it is too expensive for me at £199 (£175 through bulk buy at my college), as I don't think I will have enough work to pay for it (near retirement age and only want a few hrs work/wk). Pam.

You will get your money back from paypal. Don't buy it cos it is cheap, I know we all like to save a few quid here and there but client safety first all the time.Buying from abroad is ok in one sense but you have to think about what happens if the product fails a few month down the line,how much postage would it be to return? etc. If you look back on this forum I think you will come across links to sites to buy from in the UK. I bought a table from healthline cause I'm on a low income too. Another girl I met on healthypages bought the litechoice and is very happy with hers. My college too recommend the massage table store with a discount but I just couldn't afford it, even though I loved one of there tables in particular. I figured for training I can use mine and once I'm earning splash out a bit more.
Its okay for the young students who still get money from mum or dad or those that are working who can spend that little extra but unfortunately I'm not one of them. For what I paid I'm quite happy despite the weight.

Do you have any more info on the company healthline. I bougth 5 couches from them before christmas from ebay and 3 of them arrived damaged. The boxes were ok and when i got in touch, they claimed I had to make a claim from the courier and they wont reply to any emails. I cant find a telephone number from them anywhere. Cant get to speak to a real person. Im so annoyed.


If you have anymore details then I woudl be grateful if you oculd pass them to me.
