crystals or sensitivity

Hi all. I am completing my case studies for my diploma in reflexology and I am unsurehow to 'describe' my finidings. I seem to have found 'grit/crystals', 'sensitivity' and 'swelling' on all of my clients. Is it ok to mark all 3 as different 'findings' on my charts etc? Some areas feel 'gritty' some feel as if they are swollen with fluid and some make the client complain of sensitivity.Eek my charts are going to be very complicated. Alot of students in my class simply refer to 'grit'.

Hi Earthspirit,

Yes mark as you find !! It helps to see the improvement in the feet over the case study period. i.e. you may find that a swelling on the first week has turned into a clicking by the second week and a smaller click or granular patch by the fourth.....

It may help to colour code your charts ~ you could place small symbols at the bottom of your sheet so O = Swelling
x = tender area
* = granular/clicking reflex
# = hard/dry skin
and so on ..........

You then only need to label the reflex name by ------->thyroid

This is what I did and it makes for a much easier to read and attractive foot chart

Hiya. Thanks for the reply!I am soon to complete my diploma in reflexology *stressed sigh*I will follow your advice and label the 'textures of reflex points' just as I find them(I was afraid initially of making it too complicated but you have given me the confidence to trust my own findings) so I will use a separate colour for sensitivity a colour for fluid and a colour for crystals maybe.It does seem abit too simplistic to just label all findings as 'grit'.

Yip I had already colour coded my charts a different colour indicating differences in : temp(ie blue for cold and pink for warm), differences in colour colour(ie red for red and black for marks etc), skin condition(ie green for dry), position of calluses, corns, lines and so onand it definately looks the part *relieved sigh*. p.s can I just ask you whenthe books say to 'give special attention to' certain areas for certain disorders.....how much attention did you give? (Ialways do a complete treatment on each foot each time i see the client and maybe 'go over' the recommended areas 3 or 4 more times. Is this enough? BLESSINGS xoxoxox

Hiya,

So long as you've written down everything you find andhow you worked it on the write up sheet you'll be fine !! Your foot charts should just be a visual representation of what you've found and are more to show that you know where each of the reflex areas are on the foot.

You can and do only find a few different reflexes on the foot. Generally they're either clicking, granular, tender or swollen. Of course you can describeit asbeing "deep granular patch" for example, but you will find you're repeating yourself again and again !! Don't worry !!

As far as paying extra attention to an area ~ I tend to spend a little extra time pointing/thumb walking, whatever you need to do during the treatment and then, as you say, return to the area for a little extra work at the end ~ just be careful not to over work an area too much during one treatment as you can overstimulate an area !!!

Just a little 'foot note' (sorry) but I think its great that you are getting more things to report on as its the best time to be getting initial help and the chance to learn a lot early on and you have the perfect chance to chat it through withyour tutor.

Yes your charts are going to be busy but you'll learn so much more or gain more info quickly!
