this can be done across state lines with a cell acount that has nationwide service. time zones may be an issue, but it might be worked out.

i'd be slightly concerned with mom taking flak from less-than-professional inquiries.

You're fortunate to have your Mom who is able to help you with these things Christine.
I know my Mom was a huge asset to my business. She made my face cradle and bolster covers, did my massage laundry and helped me with my bookkeeping, though she didn't answer my phones... her help was invaluable otherwise!
My tax preparer commented on how the last 2 years I've come in fairly "last minute"... and I told her, "Hey, my mom died, I'm working with a handicap here... cut me some slack! At least I'm getting in by the 15th and not filing an extention!" LOL
I would think that the 2nd phone being bought entirely for your business would be deductible... plus if you have certain plans, you can get free mobile to mobile calls which can be great as far as not using up your minutes.
The only trouble I see is that for those with parents who live in other states, it may only work for you to call them... and not them to call you. As I believe cell phones are determined on your home calling area.
My nephew's been through several cell phone companies trying to get one that Truly offers a nationwide service... ah the joys of being a "traveling" salesman! LOL

t041 Great Idea! When my hubby worked second shift, he answered my business phone for me during the day. Boy was he popular with my female clients - warm smiling voice, very polite, and just as helpful as could be. There was a near riot when he took a first shift position at his company..... but, the ladies got over it.... some of them call in the early evenings now to book their appts because they know he might be home and answer the phone if I'm in with a client.... gotta love him for all of his help! Added bonus, creepy people get the brush off from him and I don't have to think about it ever.

Well, the mom answering service is in it's third week and it is going great!! Because she was there to answer the phone, she helped me pick up a few extra gift certificate sales and bookings.

She is a keeper for sure!!

My mom is a crackerjack degreed personal assistant and can charm the pants off snakes. Never saw a snake in pants? Mom got to it first!

It never occoured to me until this thread, but it would be a real asset to employ her do this (and other administrative duties) for me one day.t049 But once she retires she'd rather be a full-time grandma!

Yeah, Mom's great!! She just brings the cell phone where ever she goes. If she goes into a store she leaves it in the car. When she is at home she carries it around with her. No one would suspect she isnt in my office when they call!!
