Judith McKinnon OBITUARY
Judith Ann McKinnon, internationally recognized massage therapist and instructor, peacefully passed away in Oakland on February 1 after a brief illness.
She was born in New Orleans and came to California in the early 60’s. Judith traveled the world and was instrumental in lobbying for massage therapist licensing standards for the State of California.
In 1973 she founded the McKinnon Institute for Professional Massage and Bodywork that still exists in Oakland under different ownership.
In addition to her business pursuits, Judith was devoted to meditation, chanting and volunteering at the SYDA Oakland Ashram.
You are invited particularly to keep her in your hearts and prayers on February 13.
Donations in Judith’s memory may be made to SYDA Foundation at 1107 Stanford, Oakland, CA 94608 (syaoakland.org) or Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and International Shrine of St. Jude at 41 N. Rampart St. New Orleans, LA 70112 (judeshrine.com) would be a loving kind gesture.
A Celebration of Life is being planned. For more details contact [email protected].
