LaFuma versus couch

I am considering buying a Lafuma chair after talking to another thearpist who told me that it makes a difference to the therapist as my thumb is not good at the moment.[&:]

Just wondered what the rest of you think? I have found new ones on eBay for about £80 so unless I can get one from Costco where they are about £70 then I might go for it.

I love them Candie, I have one and also a couch. My clients think they are the most comfortable chair ever!

Know nothing about using a Lafuma chair for reflexology, but do know they are expensive but excellent chairs.

We are caravanners and they are very popular within the caravanning fraternity because they are very comfortable, lightweight, fold up fairly flat, and can be used as an upright chair or a lounger.

i use one candie... hmmm i dunno about any difference to my thumbs. overall, the treatment is nicer for me and the client. far less cumbersome too.

oxford school of reflexology stock a perfect stool and carry case... i also believe loopy lass has sourced somewhere that does a bit to bridge the gap where the seat ends and the bar is... i use a perfect sized cushion!

couch covers fit also.

clients do indeed love it.

I've got a lafuma, which is very comfortable to work with and use an office wheelie chair with it to alter my height. They can see-saw a bit if the client not moved up enough to balance. The locks aren't very effective. I dont think it would make much difference to hand RSI though.

I have been thinking of getting a relaxator though as they are more substantial and use the lafuma for home visits. Be warned though, my lafuma was taken on hols with me (yes caravanning) for my delectation, and withing ten minutes of sitting in it a bolt came loose and the chair semi collapsed. So a bit of maintenance and bolt checking needs to be done occassionally..

Thank goodness it was me and not my previous cllient. Mine also creaks a bit so should spray joints with furniture polish to lubricate. I may get another one as mine is the aluminium, super SRX model, (good for outdoor and camping model as is waterproof), as I think the padded ones are a bit more cumfy and can take it on hols for hubby.
One thing though, they are only supposed to take about 18stone max
The costco one I saw was black and not such a good finish as the usual ones, unless theyv'e changed it.

We bought two Lafuma from Towsure they have a website. From there you buy two for £175.

I too saw cheaper ones in Costco but they are not the same model and the quality doesn't appear as good as the ones from Towsure.

I haven't noticed any difference in terms of strain on my hands, but my clients really love the Lafuma.

GA - do you know which centre you got yours from, there's none aound locally and maybe a chain had some someplace I could pick them up.

Candie, you're lucky with Costco I tried four of them and non havew had any, let my membership expire in the end cause I'd not been able to get one.. pain in the rear sometimes with timing eh?

And I have to say the lafuma is lots lighter so well worth a look.. specially if you do mobile work, or if you don't have a backrest. Much more informal.

I don't do mobile so that's not my problem, I want one for the Centre. I was really hoping it would take the strain off my hands. Mmmmmm quandry now as I was about to pop into eBay and make a purchase. It is £80 there plus about a five postage so it's a good deal and it's a nice one. The Costco one I saw was green.

I have been in one and thought it was lovely, but when I gave a treatment in one I also had problems with it flipping about and I am not impressed hearing about loose nuts etc, have enough of them already, ha!

Can't recall where I read it, was it on here? You can get nice repais and stuff under the warranty in the rare event of a problem as long as you swear blind you don't use it for reflexology, which seems really a breach of sale of goods and consumer rights stuff, but there you go.. don't spill cream!!

You can get the Lafuma chair in some garden center and they will be about £120 I paid £175 for mine only to descover that I can get it for £120 in the local garden center. They are great

Yep I have a lafuma, and it is fantastic, the clients are so much more comfortable, although it may encourage them to be a bit more chatty which is fine by me!, have up to 23 stone in mine, no problem, no creaking, no breaking, light versatile and fantastic for pregnant women and reflex as it takes the strain and its not a position they can get into easily!

use an adjustable wheelie stool for height, only very minor problem is just to make sure clients bum is well back so that the chair stays reclined....not normally an issue. I also use the lafuma directors chair for IHM......

I find Lafuma's great as you get to see client reactions, but they are still much more relaxed than if they were just sat up - best of both worlds really.

Thanks all for your comments. After much deliberation I have decided not to get one for now. I think the fact that we have three hydraulic couches at the Centre makes a difference. I can raise and lower the couch with the foot pedal during treatment so I don't think that the effect on my arms/hands will really change.

I can see the client's reactions at all times as I have them raised up at different levels, according to what the prefer, most don't choose to lie flat.

So....Lafuma got good reports and next time I am in Costco I will probably find it hard to resist if they are in stock, but for now, I shall carry on as I am.

Just for your information, was talking to a client today who is studying reflexology and she has just bought a Lafuma from Therapies Direct for £99.

Apparently they also cover repairs (I don't know how long for).

They even do bolsters that fit under the feet
