Reflexology and sciatica

Hello,

I'm treating someone with sciatica and using all the relevant reflex points - sciatic nerve, lumbar spine, thoracic spine using spinal reflexology techniques, hip, adrenal glands etc. She is seeing some relief straight afterwards, but the next day the bad pain is there again. Has anyone had some good results using reflexology for sciatica and, if so, can you advise what else I could do please.

Hi,

You could, if you haven't already, try linking Lumbar 5 to Hip. Use your middle finger on each hand to lightly hold these reflexes and wait and you will feel a response. Could be a tingling, buzzing, pulsing or even a rod like pain between the two points. This will add power to the treatments you are already giving. Hold until the reaction subsides.

There is a more powerful 3 way link, L5, hip and sciatic loop but it would be wise to try this 2 way one first.

Mog suggestion is a valid protocol. All good stuff.

I treat alot of sciatic pain with Thai Yoga Massage combined with Reflexology. I can be shifted, but you need to be patient and treat regularly.

Sciatic problems tend to be long term, but can be nipped in the bud quite quickly.

The things to consider is the nerve can be "pinched" on bony structures or muscle/connective tissue tightness in the buttocks, lower back and legs. If symptoms persist it may be a more serious problem. After all that is what pain is - a warning call. Best to refer.

Another suggestion is that if you are into Chinese energy lines, work the Bladder, Gallbladder and sometimes Stomach meridians on the side of the pain. Have a look at a chart and see if your clients sciatic pain follow the course of either of these meridians.

Hello Sarah here is Beto from Brazil! everything you did is correct. I think you could add the cervical spine stilulating it a lot - five minutes - it will help your client, but let me tell you about a client I have treated with sciatic pain for 2 months.The main problem in this case was emotional and when I treated the emotional the problem was solved. Have tried this? the wal of life of my client was so stressful and this affected all her sciatic nerves. When she understood she had to change her life, stop living a stressful day, she began to fell much better!! try this!! ok Beto. have a nice day!!
