There are only 25 businesses with body rub licenses, you can have your business apply for a bodyrub licence but the application process is closed and has been a long time. Meaning no new businesses can get bodyrub licences. Only girls can apply to get there personal body rub license and go work at a licenced place.
So all the spas facing these hardships do not have the option of pivoting and getting a bodyrub licence to operate there spa.

Brad/XTC's full time job is MP, and promoting obviously first and foremost Bellagio, but other fs spas as well.

He has it set up with the various spas to create traffic and in return gets compensated. To do this, he has numerous fake ids who charade as clients that provide exaggerated reviews/descriptions to attract interest which leads to traffic to the spa.

Maniacly genius! It must work however, how many of us have been duped when we attend based on the review/description to discover that it was completely misleading? I know I have been numerous times.

As the overwhelming majority of MP members(likely 90% or more) only read and don't post for fear of their significant other finding out, we only hear from a small percentage of those who have been duped by this scoundrel!!!

It takes a lot to navigate City Hall to get any licences especially anything related to any type of massage. It took me 5 visits to finally get mine.

And technically it does not allow us to do a full body massage. But we now at least have a licence hanging on the wall.

It really depends on the zone the spa is in. Some zones are very restrictive. I suspect Reflexology would fall under Personal Services which is not allowed in many zones.

RMTs are allowed pretty much everywhere but Bylaw will be more stringent checking them in the future. I was told being certified in Acupuncture is also permitted at most locations.

Many MPAs don’t want the body rub license on their record. Some are or plan to do RMT so they don’t want to be associated with body rub at all. Others are worried (justified or not) that people can search and find their names on the internet.

Someone in promotion should take the bull by the horns here, do the due diligence and find out what is required, then offer a package to various owners to help them navigate the process. Familiarity helps when dealing with bureaucracy from my experience, so being able to handle the problem for a group is beneficial to both sides in getting things sorted. Having a RMT licence does not mean the business has a business licence to operate.

Speaking to a few owners they do not seem to know the difference between what licence the MPA has and what the business need.

They might not know better but the people around them - the promoters, long time customers, etc should have known better.

Get whatever licence you need first to operate first. Worry about what you can or cannot do later.

I told him it's quite impossible for all the employees to have RMT lic and almost all RMT clinics have only one RMT lic holder and the rest are all helpers with no lic. He said he knows that but they will be ticketed in Richmond Hill.

This is correct. Even some very well known "legit" spas that have been operating for over 20 years will be shut down soon. I have a package at one of them...I will need to use that up very soon.

So I guess Spa ownership will never be a mainstream business because of the stigma attached to it.

I own a spa. My name is on the licence. I own 2 other mainstream business. My name is on the ownership papers. I signed all the lease agreements. I am the person who goes to City Hall to get the licence for the Spa. I am one of the largest supplier of Massage comsumables to the wholesalers who sells to these Asian Spas.

My name is out there if anyone does a search of the business. But is it that much of a Public exposure? Only interested parties will do a search. 99% of Joe public do not know or even care..

Like I said one cannot have it both ways. Is it a legal business or an underground (unlicenced) business. One has to make a decision.

I don't decide whether there is a stigma or not, society does.

You might feel differently about the risk of exposure if you were a female keeping this from their family.

It is a legal business, as long as the rules are followed. You should know that's not always the case.
