Yu Ping is quite aways west from the part of Nanjing Road I think you are interested in. A moderately long cab ride that can be done by subway and cab combined between the two. Google for a Shanghai map and you can see it for yourself. Also, Google for Yuping Hotel for address, etc. Sorry can't be more helpful but your "payback scheme" sounds interesting. Just remember that some of these girls are in the business only because their countryside families need the money, It's not their idea of a great way to make a living.

Man I am going to Nanjing Road!

I love it when they try to scam me. The game is what excites me and my eventual victory. I have never been to Shanghai but have traveled extensively in Thailand and the PI. To be honest the girls in the PI and Thailand are too simple and not very good at the game. So I am excited to see if the Chinese girls are better.

So here is my goal. Walk around looking like a mark until approached. Then show the dumb bitch how the game is played. Get her in my room, fuck the shit out of her, make her think I love her and that I might take her out of the shit hole she lives in, and then dump her (this of course is a very simplified version of what I do). Now don’t get me wrong I don’t fuck with nice girls heads like this. I only pull this shit on the most stuck up, scamming bitches I can find. I figure it is just karma coming back to pay them a visit.

However, the problem is that playing this game does not always work out so I need a place that I can reliably get a nut. I have heard of Yu Ping Hotel/Sauna and how great it is so I was thinking of staying there. How far away is Nanjing Road from there? Also could you guys tell me if the area Yu Ping is located in has a descent mongering scene? If not could you suggest a good area for me to stay while there?

2. or ask a taxi driver for the right place to go

If you go around in Shanghai take a couple of cards from your hotel and write your room number on it. If some girls approache you on the road just give them the card but fix the price first and don´t pay any cent or go for a drink!
Your chance is 50/50 that the girl really comes to the hotel room.

I was in Shanghai last week. Spent lots of time on Nanjing Lu and the Waitan, Bund. I found the best way to avoid these scams is to let them know you speak some Chinese. The lesson is to learn a few Chinese phrases before you arrive. Once they think you can make a scene in Mandarin or call for the PSB, they are not interested in you. Barring that and just for laughs, a couple times I used the "I'm from Sweden, do you speak that language because my English is very poor." They will lose interest under this circumstance as well. Sometimes it's difficult to figure out their scam. I hate to be such a cynic, but I have to think 99% of them want to get your RMB either with sex or with charm. 20 years ago that wasn't the case, now you can make book on it.

I was well warned of the scams on the main street through these pages but was almost the victim of another. The only things that prevented god-knows-what was the warnings about the Shanghai street scene and the fact that my brain was in my correct head as I had just laid the hotel beautician an hour earlier.

Coming out of my restaurant on the square opposite the railway station, I was approached by two girls offering sex and massage and waving a full-colour pamphlet of a massage salon. I walked away from them. Five minutes later, a group of four, young, attractive student-type girls did the same thing with the same pamphlet. They offered sex in my hotel room for 300Y. This seemed a good deal and I really liked the looks of one of them so I played along. They said the girl would come to me and I should wait. I wondered why bring a girl from a massage parlour to my hotel? After much telephoning, a young man, a couple of years older appeared. I was told to go to the girl. I followed three of the girls, the fourth stayed behind. We were getting into a really sleazy part of town and I was now convinced that this was a scam. I felt safe because there were so many people around though I’m not sure how many of them would come to my help were it needed. After about 10 mins. I was told to wait on a street corner and they would fetch the girl. Two of them left and I noticed that they were joined by a second young man with a pony tail and the three of them moved off together. I wondered what the scam would be. I presumed I would be asked to pay the 300Y over and the girl would then melt away. However, this was a pretty big operation for just 300Y. After another few minutes, the girl who had stayed behind appeared and said something to the girl who had stayed with me. They moved me to the other side of the road. The second girl left. At this point, I decided to walk. Not briskly but forthrightly. I heard the girl shout and then running footsteps behind me. She implored me to stay but I just kept walking and she just kept following, constantly shouting into her telephone. When I got to the block with my hotel, I could go either left or right. She wanted me to go right, so I went left. I reached the hotel doors just as the others in the gang got there.

Was I just paranoid and I missed the chance of a good lay or the almost-victim of an elaborate, if amateurish, scam? I leave you to judge yourself. All I would do is re-echo the words of a good many others on this site and advise you to avoid the street scene. It just isn’t worth it. There are so many safe places to get a good lay.

I tried a woman who i pcked up outside the Grand Hyatt. Stunning looking woman but after 4 drinks at the bar on the ground floor of the building and a bill of RMB 4000, she agreed to come up with me provided I gave her an advance of RMB 500. Thereafter she said she would be in my room in a few minutes.

That was the last I saw of her. I am sure she had a cut in the booze bill as well.

I recomend that you make a sene and start to thretn of reporting them to the police and say you will report them to the authorities. The Locals are shit scared of this. Most probably they will let you go.

2 gues tried to steal a vallet fromm my friend, whom was taking a bath. My friend reported it to the police and the gues got 10 YEARS of inprisonment. My friend tried to take back his report but that did not work.

I sympathize with you guys. I got ripped off on Nanjing Road TWICE.This what happened.
The first time two girls approached me, didn't look like whores, offered to show me around. We chit chatted and then she suggested a coffee. I say why not?
She took me to a building somewhere in middle of Nanjing Road.I was hesitant, I said why not go to KFC or McDonalds, she says no we will get nice view from top floor of restaurant! I fall hook, line and sinker and go upstairs along with them. The waiter obviously knows them and ushers us into a booth.She starts getting fresh with me and when waiter comes orders something in Chinese. I order a beer.Suddenly I find that a dish of fruits arrive, alongwith some side dsihes, 4 pegs of Whiskey,etc.The second girl starts drinking. I get suspicious an dask for waiter.I tell hinm to bring the bill immediately. I get a shock, it is 1500 Yuan! I pay up and leave disgusted.
However what is worse I got ripped off a SECOND time! The next week I again went to Nanjing road and determined to get some proper pussy. A girl approached me.She was alone and asked if I minded if she chatted with me. I should have said yes and walked away, but lik ea fly drawn to a spider's net I said yes. I figured if I just took her hand and strolled on th eroad, I wasn't going to lose anything. After a while she suggested coffee. Aha! I thought now I'll show you. By now I had learnt that these dames operated in cahoots with the restaurants on Najing street so I said why not, but not here we go someplace far away. She said OK. WE walked along for a while crossed a couple of streets away from Nanjing Road. I saw a nice joint and I suggested we go there. She said OK. I thought OK now I got the real one without a rip off. Alas! I was too clever by half. She ordered something and suddenly 6 glasses of whisky. I was angry and asked the manager to take them away, I said I will pay for only one glass, which she had already downed before I could say "Hey". Then I waited for the bill, again safe in the knowledge that it would be for only one glass.Ha! These guys are smarter. I got a bill again for 1500 RMB. 500 RMB for the glass and 1000 RMB for "sitting charges"! Disgusted I paid and walked away never to go again to Nanjing Road.

There is a lot to be learned from this thread, and I guess a few of you summarized those lessons fairly well.

Just a few additional remarks.

If you are into finding a girl and having a good time with her I would avoid both KTV and Nanjing Lu all together. Surely, there are better places?

The Nanjing Lu scam is a classic. It happened to me once and other girls have tried to pull off the same shit several times since.

I was window shopping in Nanjing lu, minding my own business, and was approached by two fairly good looking girls. They said they just wanted to go for a coffee and practise english etc, etc. You know the rest of the story by now. Eventually the bill was huge for a couple of coffees and a pathetic plate of fruits and they wanted me to pay. "In china gentleman pay etc.." that kind of bullshit.

I got mad as hell, basically told them to fuck off and leave me alone, and caused a major frigging scene in the restaurant. The girls were crying, all boo-hoo, their tough guy friends by the door looked totally shocked, and everyone in the restaurant had their eyes fixed on us. Very ungentlemanly behavior for sure.

Still, I recommend others to do the same if this happens. These scumbags pick on YOU cause they think you are easy prey. They think you are weak when you are alone and that you are just a sucker out of his element. If you prove you are anything but easy prey, they will let you leave.

I'm no macho madman by any means, and I'm not saying other people should be either. But the simple fact is that these conartists know darn well that if the cops ever caught them doing their tricks on foreigners, they would be in the deepest shit imaginable. They simply won't risk all that if they face resistance.

China and Shanghai officials protect foreigners extremely well, since we represent a major investment in "The New China". It's about "human capital", and we are almost untouchable.

Well, that's my opinion at least. If anyone differs, that fine by me, but I'd love to hear why.

I went to Shanghai 2 weeks ago for a couple days vacation. First let me say I was very impressed with the city. Streets clean, people well-dressed, subway lines, nice museums, cheap shopping, etc. Gone are the short, skinny, buck-teeth women in Mao Jackets - the average Chinese woman on the street looked pretty good to me [I live in South Korea].

I couldn't believe the number of young girls who tried to pick me up on the Nanjing Road mall. Usually there was only one to start, but after she thought she had me hooked, then her girlfriend would show up. Many of them wanted me to buy them food. One had balls and walked up to me in KFC and said she would take "Combo Meal Number 5" and I didn't even know her! Anyways, I was very good about avoiding this game the first couple days I was there. The second night late a somewhat plain and older girl walked up to me and shyly said in broken English that she was "Lily from Xian" and wanted to give me a massage. As I think back on it now she probably would have given me a good night in the sack for a reasonable amount of money plus a good meal.

A Chinese guy at the hotel told me to take a taxi to the Xin Tian Di area, and I liked it. 3-4 bars with live bands. I avoided the girls outside the clubs. Went to Paulaner's first, and thought the RMB 600 for a small draft beer was high. Several cuties at the bar. The girls were not predatory, so I don't know if they were pick-up girls or not. Anyways, then I walked to another place, but I soon found out that everything in that complex shut down about midnight. You definitely have to hit that area early. So, after a couple more beers at a nearby Chinese club, I found a taxi back to my hotel.

Upon arrival I saw the lobby bar was closed, so I decided to walk down the street to a local tavern I had been to before. On the way, a massage girl gave me a 10% discount coupon. The local bar was closed, so I figured I would check out the massage parlor, not knowing if I would get FS or not. But on the way back this 30-something Chinese lady walked by me and smiled, so I said Nee Hao, and we stopped and talked. I believed her that she just got off work, as she wasn't dressed that well and had some bags of food with her. She said we could have a beer and talk. I had drank enough beer that night so my guard was down. I took a chance that I might get lucky without a scam. Well, we walked into another hotel and she asks them where the bar is, and we ride up to the 4th floor. It was a KTV. My gut told me not to do it, as I've paid hefty bills in these places in Japan and Korea, but the booze clouded my judgment, or my dick was telling me I hadn't been laid for 3 days, I'm not sure which. Anyways, I was told it would cost RMB 100 per hour plus drinks. I said okay. Then she said she would call her girlfriend, who showed up quickly. A real knock-out. But she starts ordering all sorts of drinks and snacks, and could see the bill going up. So I told the one employee who spoke some English to tell me when the first hour was up. At that time I made them get out of the room so I could pay the bill. The first girl had said she would come to my hotel room. But I snapped when the KTV manager presented me with a bill for about USD $150. I got really pissed off. The girls said nothing to help me, but stood near the elevator. Finally, I had no choice but to pull out my credit card and pay it. On the way out I was furious with the girls and told them I was going back to my hotel room alone. Now, maybe that was a mistake, and I should have tried to salvaged something with the one chick. The other one was too "fast" for me, but I'm sure a younger guy with a high expense account could handle her.

Next trip to China I think I will avoid the freelance scene altogether and stick to the massage parlors and whore houses reported on this site and from other reliable sources.

China 'dolls' for rent at $2,600 a month

THEY are virtually invisible because they blend so well with Foochow-speaking local community.

But by 6pm, the parking area near a restaurant in Jalan Kampung Selamat in Sitiawan, Perak, is filled with expensive cars.

From the cars, elderly men alight with young women in tow.


The women are 'China dolls' from the Fuzhou province in China, reported the New Straits Times.

They offer their company and 'extra services' to elderly men in the district for a fee.

The women are available for 'rental' of up to RM6,000 ($2,634) a month depending on their age and beauty.

The 20-to-30-year-olds have latched on to local agents who advertise their services by word of mouth to the mostly Foochow-speaking members of the local Chinese community.

A businessman in the property line, who declined to be identified, said one needed to be in the right circles to be able to 'rent' the women.

According to him, the agents set the women up in apartments where those 'renting' them can visit daily.

The rental period could range between a day and a month.

'If you go to the right location, you can see men as old as 70 being accompanied by women in their 20s to breakfast.'

They spoke the Foochow dialect in its purest form, as it is spoken in China, the businessman said.

A police source confirmed that the restaurant had been raided several times on suspicion that it was operating as a front for prostitution ring.

However, the women would say that they were merely socialising with the men.

Sitiawan state assemblyman Ngeh Koo Ham said the problem started about three years ago.

But while the men are happy, their wives are not.

Mr Ngeh said he had received complaints from several wronged wives.

Doctors in Sitiawan have reported a rise in STD cases.

Local men risk getting sexually-transmitted diseases when they consort with the girls.

A doctor said he had treated many elderly men and more than 100 China girls for syphilis, gonorrhea and urinary tract infection in the past two years.

Holy crap! That sounds like the exact circumstance under which my friend and I were scammed back in November of 2004 when we were in Shanghai-- right down to 1) the location at which we were approached and how we were approached (two girls asking for the time and directions on Nanjing Lu and then suggesting that we continue the conversation at a coffee shop), 2) the "coffee shop" on the 8th Floor, 3) the dishes of fruit (slices of watermelons) and nuts, and 4) the whiskey that mysteriously appearing after one of the girls excused herself to go to the ladies room.

Anyways, I sensed something was amiss when the 4 glasses of whiskey started showing up and immediately told them that we had to leave to make our tour back at the hotel. Long story short, the bill came out to 1300 RMB for my orange juice, my friend's coffee, the fruits and plate of nuts, and the girls' 4 whiskey drinks! I told them we only had $800 RMB between us because we weren't expecting to spend that much on freakin coffee! Strangely enough, the girls "offered" to pay the rest and we got out losing only $800 RMB. Never again....
